My name is Karen and I offer doula support and photography services for pregnancy, birth, lifestyle and family photos. I am based in Caringbah and cover the metropolitan Sydney area.
I began my career in nursing and then progressed into midwifery. I have been a midwife for 19 years and still work as a midwife when I am not working as a doula or taking photographs. Throughout my career I have been truly blessed to witness the miracle of pregnancy, labour and birth. My understanding of these processes, helps me as a doula and photographer to protect the birth environment and blend into the background when needed. Birth is powerful, raw and intimate and Beautiful Beginnings aims to support you in the way you feel you need to be supported. We would also love to document your amazing journey using photography that is unscripted, natural and unintrusive. Our packages are flexible and offer a range of services that allows for this. As a Midwife I have a passion for childbirth. A woman is most powerful on the day she gives birth. With Beautiful Beginnings I have been able to capture these precious moments of a new life beginning through the beauty and power of birth. As Ina May Gaskin once said "If a woman doesn't look like a goddess in labour then someone isn't treating her right" and we understand the importance of this. I like to keep the photographs simple and natural, using natural light and capturing the small details. For pregnancy and family photography I try to use the outdoors with the natural light it provides. We do this by using such locations as the beach at sunrise or some of the many local gardens in the area. I have also been lucky enough to work with newborns throughout my career and have children and grandchildren of my own. This helps me to capture cherished memories in all of my family and lifestyle photographs. |
